for friday fictioneers 100-word challenge 25 october 2013

it pains to see the keyboard dismantled and abandoned. before i left for college, it was in great shape. now it’s a piece of junk. my little brother denies it, but i know he has something to do with it.

it had been my pride and joy growing up. i thought it would become a family heirloom, but it isn’t meant to be. i better get used to the truth that nothing lasts forever. when all is said and done, nothing will be left but memories, and they will continue to exist only for as long as we remember them.

      rochelle:

i didn’t expect how difficult the 100-word limit would be!
i appreciate the welcome and hope to contribute more in the future.

    Dear Plaridel,

Lord Dunsany would agree with you, even as he built his raft. Still and all, tis a strange sentiment coming from a writer.

The other writer your work put me in mind of is Cormac McCarthy.

    Aloha,

    Doug

it goes for people like us, too. we cease to exist once nobody remembers us anymore.

A nice piece and I particularly like the second part of the last sentence.
(Grammar corner: It HAD been my pride and joy … . It no longer is so past perfect rather than present perfect.)
