do you ever wonder why mediterranean food is healthy and tastes good? it’s all about the quality of the ingredients. it uses only fresh produce and meat.
when you travel to countries like greece, turkey, or italy, take some time to visit the neighborhood market. as you roam the place, you’d not only get a glimpse of local life but see stalls after stalls of fresh produce, newly butchered meat, and catch of the day offerings that go to the pot on the same day they are bought.
the above pictures were taken inside the market located in the old neighborhood of plaka in athens. if you find them disgusting, i suggest that you stop right there. don’t go any further to the dirty, smelly, and bloody wet section where you’d see carcasses cut to pieces. although it would provide quite an experience to the adventurous, you’d likely find it totally out of your comfort zone.

I remember being in a market in Greece and seeing flies all over the meat hanging there. But I imagine they were fresh (both meat and flies.) 🙂

i saw them flies, too. it seems that flies are attracted by the scent of death flesh. incidentally, on hot summer days, even open air eateries are honored by their presence. my friend calls them little drones zooming on your food. 🙂
