osama bin laden is at it again

the al-queda leader released two audio messages last friday and saturday exhorting rich muslim countries to help victims in flood-ravaged areas in pakistan. these recordings were a far cry from his usual rhetoric of carrying jihad against the west. did he, at one time, even suggested that america convert to the muslim faith to prevent further bloodshed? although the west considers him a crackpot, we hang on to every word he says. why not? he’s a david facing goliath. in our culture, we love to root for the underdog.

at this moment in time, he may look like a monster, the leader of a terrorist group whose mission it is to bring chaos and destruction to infidels and perceived enemies of islam. but down the road, say, 50 years from now, when he’s long dead, he’d be revered as a folk hero even if his dream of converting the west has failed. incidentally, he may actually have been aware of it as evidenced by dyeing part of his beard for the camera, so he’d look good for posterity.

by then, the rough surface of his deeds may have been smoothen by age that our butts won’t hurt sitting on them. he’d be romanticized like the pirates of the caribbean, the mafia bosses, the drug dealers, the vigilantes, the outlaws of the old west, the gangsters of the 20s and 30s, etc. kids will buy his action figures and play out his exploits. books will be written about him and translated into many languages. hollywood moguls will fight over the best script of his life story. teens will be wearing t-shirts with his airbrushed image instead of che guevara’s. last but not the least, future biographers will credit him for saving the presidency of george w. bush.

after many years of hiding and lying low, bin laden doesn’t seem to lose his penchant for seeking the limelight by releasing tapes one after another. on this year alone, he has been credited with 5 recordings although their authenticity hasn’t been fully verified. he should be encouraged in this pursuit even at the risk of capture or getting shot at. as a true muslim, he’s not afraid of death anyway. “the difference between us and you [americans],” he once said, “is that you fear death and are frightened by it, whereas we hope for it and seek it in god’s path.” if there’s truly a will, our men in uniform can find him and kill him. we should grant his death wish now before he changes his mind.

Bin Laden is already a hero to the Muslim youth around the world. His stature will only grow with the passage of time.

      a.r.:

he has captured the imagination of muslim youth alright, but it doesn’t mean he’d lead them to paradise and the promised 72 virgins.

Years after ur a grown up young man wht do u do? U think this young man (U)will go Jihad for 72 promised virgins? What kind of person will ben laden be for U, keeping in mind he is among those rare person taking actions against those who kill n rape ur mother n sister?
