money. money, money (revisited)

i just withdrew $300 from the atm today and before i knew what was happening i’m close to counting change again. sometimes i wonder if money is like a bird in your hand. if you don’t hold it a little tight, it’ll slip in your fingers at the first opportunity.

where did the money go? evidently some soul searching was required. i decided then and there that i had to do it tonight, but not before dinner for fear of having indigestion.

so right after doing the dishes, i sat down before the tv and recalled the day’s activities. i made notes of the expenses i made. and here’s what i came up with:

gas 35.00
2 cups of coffee 6.50
snickers bar 1.79
orange juice 5.00
quaker oatmeal 2.78
bags of chocolate for trick-or-treaters 15.16
lunch 10.00
haircut 15.00
deodorant 5.25
toilet paper 7.50
train ticket for 8 days 60.00
star magazine 3.99
san jose mercury news 1.00
20 postage stamp booklet> 8.80
2 pairs of boxer shorts 28.00
total 205.77

from the list, it’s obvious that i need to exercise some discretion in my spending habits. for one thing, i can limit myself to one cup of coffee a day and skip lunch once in a while. that would be hard, but, i guess, i can manage, especially considering that it would save me over a thousand dollars a year. the snickers bar can go, too. how about the star magazine? is browsing not allowed at the store? yes, but i can’t do that. it’s a man thing. i don’t want to be seen reading that trash. and the deodorant? i don’t think so. i can’t live without it, what with all the meetings that i have to go to. and the boxer shorts? didn’t i buy them on a whim? yes, but they have become necessities. my current pairs are starting to show signs of fatigue. if i don’t do anything about it now, my modesty will soon be compromised.

it’s amazing how easy money can be spent. it looks like the best way to handle my finances is to keep a record of day to day expenses. this would help me understand where the money goes. tonight was a good start. would i follow through? we’d have to wait and see.

Ang mahal naman ng orange juice mo! Hahaha! <– kuripot 😀

Anyway, my dad taught me not to skip meals just so I could save money. Just eat whatever I want daw and magtipid na sa lahat ng bagay wag lang sa food. Ayun, ang ending tuloy I eat 4-5x a day. BIG servings and a little pricey than what my colleagues/friends pay for. Hahahahha! Nasobrahan sa paalala si dad.

actually, the orange juice was a good deal. i paid $5 for two pure squeezed 64 fl. oz. cartons. regular prize is $3.68 each.

your dad has a point. just eat healthy if you can manage it. 🙂
