i had a dream

snoopy and woodstock – charles schulz

last night i had a strange dream. read on if you will.

i took the subway train to our company’s main headquarters. the closest stop to the building was three blocks away. rather than take a connecting bus, i decided to walk the rest of the way. usually, the street would be littered by homeless people asking for a dollar or a smoke. but this time they were missing in action.

i entered the side entrance of the main headquarters. it was a tall building, part of it leased to other companies. it had many elevators. some of the elevators served the lower floors only while the rest served the higher floors. i looked for the elevator that would take me to the 30th floor. i couldn’t find it. well, i could have asked the security guard, but that wasn’t on the script.

for hours, i found myself walking around and around in vain. finally, i decided to take the stairs to the second floor.

on the second floor, i found a woman sitting behind a desk. she looked like a receptionist. she was wearing a pink sweater that seemed ready to burst at any moment. i approached her. i wanted to ask her for directions. however, before i could utter a word, she ushered me to a waiting area. she must have thought i was interviewing for a job. i should have told her i wasn’t. but, again, that wasn’t on the script.

and so the interview came and the first question asked.

interviewer: what do you know about the native americans?

me: you mean, the american indians?

interviewer: yes.

i tried to recollect my thoughts. for a moment, my mind was blank. it was like having a rick perry moment during a recent republican party presidential debate. then, i remembered something written on the subject. i think it was from dave barry or some other noted historian.

me: would you mind if i stand up? i find it hard to speak while sitting on my butt.

interviewer: of course, you may.

me: as i recall, they were in this place now called the u.s. long before anybody else. when the first settlers from england came, the natives welcomed them and offered them corn. the settlers liked the corn so much that they asked for more. the natives showed them how to plant the corn instead. they figured that if they taught the newcomers how to plant, they wouldn’t be on welfare for a lifetime.

interviewer: go ahead, continue.

me: well, the first thanksgiving came. as a token of gratitude, the settlers invited the natives for dinner. they had a blast. then, the settlers headed them back to the reservation. and the rest is history.

i think they liked what they heard. they hired me for a job in project management.

after being introduced to the staff, i found myself in a conference room for a meeting.

they were passing a tray of goodies around the table.

when i asked for some, one middle-aged man in a striped green short sleeve shirt and a tie, stared at me contemptuously.

i told him a la donald trump – you’re fired.

then i woke up. it was morning. i went to the bathroom and peed.

most of my dreams are like this. disjointed. convoluted. and doesn’t make sense.

If your dream were a Maalaala Mo Kaya episode, the title would be — CORN. Haha. Nonsense din ang comment ko. 😀
