the new york giants won with a score of 21-17. darn, they beat the new england patriots with a touchdown in the closing minutes. it was the same story when they met for the first time in the super bowl in 2008. the would-be giants’ slayer was slain instead.

the patriots didn’t seem to have their act together from the get-go. on their first play, tom brady made an uncharacteristic mistake that ended in a touchback. it was followed shortly by a fumble that the patriots recovered only to be nullified by a penalty of having 12 men on the field resulting in a giants’ touchdown. just like that, the score was 9-0 in favor of the giants.

to their credit, tom brady and the patriots were able to settle down. on their next possessions, they scored a kick and a touchdown enabling them to lead 10-9 at the end of the first half. in the second half, they made another touchdown. but that was it. once again, eli manning and the giants proved that they were for real. when the game was on the line, they were able to score twice making those phenomenal throws and catches that won them the championship.

i could have been to my cousin’s place in san francisco watching the super bowl on a big screen. she and her husband could be considered football fanatics. as in the previous years, they hosted a football party at their house. this time, however, i was missing in action. i decided not to go because of this really bad cold. i didn’t want to infect anybody with the virus. besides, in my condition, i wasn’t even sure i could drive that far.

it was thursday when i started to feel something wrong. i had a slight fever. soon the cold virus attacked my immune system with the ferocity of a running back eager to score a touchdown. by friday night, i was coughing incessantly that my ribs started to hurt. i don’t usually like taking medication because of the risk of side effects. but by sunday morning, i felt that my sore throat was getting worse. i was also having problem breathing normally because of congestion in my chest. i knew the time had come to go to walgreens and buy one of those cold medicines advertised on tv. as soon as i started taking it, it made me feel better.

it was a heartbreaker alright. the team i was rooting for lost. to add insult to injury, i had to mourn alone. and there was no beer and no pizza to provide comfort.

The game could have gone either way. Both teams played well. It was just the Giants were a little bit better which made the difference. That’s all.

i agree. the patriots were a little off. it didn’t help that wes welker was playing with a concusion and rob gronkowski’s movement was severely limited by a high-ankle sprain. but give credit where credit is due. the giants deserved to win.

We miss you, dude, but consider yourself lucky. It was a highly partisan Giants group. He He He. If you had come, you’d be eaten alive.
