It’s Your Birthday
It’s Sunday morning. I hope you woke up feeling great today because it’s your birthday. You think I forgot? I didn’t.
Happy 28th. Seriously? Really? Whatever you say. You don’t look it, and I mean it as a compliment.
You know, the world is blessed that you were born. You’re so special that somebody up there even made a twin out of you. But you know what? There’ll never be another you.
I’m glad that you take up mountain climbing as a hobby. On a trip to Washington, I chanced upon this poem by Yang Sa’Eon (1517-1584) at the Korean Gallery of the National Museum of Natural History. It says:
The mountain may be high,
But it is still below heaven.
Climb and climb again;
Everyone can reach the summit.
Only the man who never tried
Insists the mountain is high.
Well, go get ’em, girl. I see that there’ll be more mountains for you to climb in the days ahead. Just be careful and take your own pace and tackle them one at a time if possible.
Again, happy birthday and many more to come!
As for me, I’ll be off shortly to my volunteer work serving as a course monitor at the annual run to the lake event to benefit the local hospital’s trauma unit. Because of the nice weather, a lot of runners are expected to participate. Wish me luck.
