for friday fictioneers 100-word challenge 7 march 2014

The volcano was spewing smoke and ash. This meant a virgin had to be sacrificed.

Back in the day, maidens came to Yochi so they wouldn’t make the cut. But now he was old to perform.

In the forest, he freed a trapped dragonfly which happened to be a wizard.

For saving the wizard, he was granted three wishes.

“To be young again,” Yochi said.

“Granted.”

“Be strong as that bull.”

“Granted.”

“Be well hung as that horse.”

“Are you sure?” The wizard was amused.

“Yes, master.”

“Granted.”

It was a wish he’d later regret. The horse was a mare.

For my story, I adopted the idea of the wizard and the three wishes from a joke about a guy who was suffering from low self esteem. It was told by a friend in Filipino many years ago. He’s already dead so I can’t ask him if it was an original joke of his. I suspect it was a variation of a similar joke. Nonetheless, I dedicate this story in his memory.

Good one, Plaridel. I guess the stricture to be careful what you ask for certainly applies here.
