this is a monument of jose rizal (1861-1898), the philippines’ foremost national hero who was executed by firing squad by the spanish authorities for inciting rebellion. it’s located close to the spot where he was shot in luneta park (formerly bagumbayan), manila.

the monument was erected to honor his legacy and keep his memory alive for future generations.

jose rizal was a man of many talents. he was a doctor of medicine, a writer and poet, a linguist, a world traveler, an expert in martial arts, and a lover of women. ha-ha. he was suspected of being the notorious jack the ripper himself based on circumstantial evidence that he fit the profile, that he was in london when the murder spree occurred and stopped when he left, and that his initials happened to be “J.R.”
