rock pigeons
location: main market square, kraków, poland

the main market square on the old town (stare miasto) district in kraków, poland is home to hundreds, if not thousands of rock pigeons. i was lucky to get a shot of them while they were afloat eyeing food handouts from visiting tourists.

the rock pigeons aren’t the only feature of the main square supposedly the largest medieval square in europe. it’s surrounded by centuries-old architectures such as the cloth hall, town hall tower, church of st. adalbert, and st. mary’s basilica. you can also find restaurants and cafes where you can dine, relax, and watch the world around you. it’s a lovely place to visit for locals and tourists alike.

dating back to the 13th century, there’s a lot of history to it, too. it had been a witness to many royal ceremonies and victory celebrations as well as public executions of prisoners. in the modern era, it had been a place for staging mass demonstrations against the soviet union by the solidarity movement that led to its country’s independence.

lonely planet rates kraków’s main square as the most beautiful in the world. since i’ve never been all over, i give it the benefit of the doubt.

That is such a great shot Plaridel, The flock of birds look amazing and compliment so well with the background. Quiet a historically significant place it seems! Fantastic response to this week’s challenge 🙂 🙂

The birds look great, mostly because you still paid attention to the background rather than capturing them haphazardly in the sky, it’s really lovely image.
