Weekly Photo Challenge: Eye Spy

Shoe Shine
Location: On the Road to Konya, Turkey

This photo was taken as I was waiting for the bus going to Konya, Turkey. I decided to while my time by having my shoes shined. As a result, I had become an object of curiosity from a passing tourist.

As tourists nowadays, we have become more like safari hunters. Instead of guns, we have our cameras. We go to a place and think we own it. We feel so entitled to shoot at anything that moves. With digital cameras and phones equipped with large capacity memory cards, the practice has exacerbated to the point of being disrespectful, intrusive, and rude. Small wonder we aren’t as welcome as we used to be. Instead of a smile, we’re greeted with a frown.

Don’t get me wrong. Pictures we take from a trip make it more memorable. At the same time, a question needs to be asked. Where do we draw the line?

Interesting question isn’t it?! And also interesting, why are we interested in someone in a foreign country doing something we wouldn’t think twice about shooting in our own???? It’s a weird world out there, isn’t it?!
