Crossing Over

For Friday Fictioneers 100-Word Challenge: 20 May 2016
“I need to find someone to take care of Acel,” Marwan told his family sitting at the departure area.
“Why Papa?” Little Amena asked.
“The smugglers don’t allow dogs on board.”
He then instructed his wife to go and not to wait for him in case he didn’t return on time.
Of course, it was a lie. He only had enough money to pay for his family’s trip.
“Better hurry, Papa.”
When he came back later, he found the place empty.
“Don’t be sad, Acel, they’re on their way to freedom. It’ll just be the two of us for now.”

Heartbreaking, and it still happens far too often. Families torn apart.

gahlearner:
it will continue to happen for as long as we don’t get along, coexist, and live in peace.

Yes, families indeed torn apart. I knew a girl whose family were boat people from Vietnam. Not easy for her to recount, either. But, the family made it, and I’m sure this family will, too, eventually.

Well, it never hurts to ask. And tell him there’s a generous tip in it if he tells one or two.

Dear Plaridel,
Marwan is selfless. Such a touching story. I hope he’ll find a way for he and Acel to join them. Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Heartrending, Plaridel. He’s made a big sacrifice for his family. We hear so many sad stories these days. Wars are terrible and rip families apart. Well done. —- Suzanne
