For Friday Fictioneers 100-Word Challenge: 24 June 2016

NOTE: This will be my last post for a while. I expect to be back in the next few weeks.

I was eleven when our family immigrated to America.

I found her sitting on the bench outside. When I offered her half a piece of gum, she took it without saying a word.

Tara was my best friend growing up in the same neighborhood.

“I’m sorry, I have to go.”

“Me, too,” she said, her head bowed down.

I left her fiddling with the action figure I gave her on Christmas.

As we drove to the airport, I tried to look at her one last time but she was already gone back inside the house.

I never saw her again.

Gee, that’s too bad. We all had people in our lives we met and liked and later had to give up. Very nicely written.

Hope to read more from you, Plaridel. All the best. Let us know how you’re doing.

I cannot imagine how it is… though thinking about it, I think I’ve seen similar partings even when the leaving wasn’t as far as that…

Sad, but I expect they both made other friends. Have a nice time, whatever you’re doing in your weeks away.

Childhood friendship loss is one of the cruelest memories. I feel like anyone who lived in numerous towns relates. You’ve captured the experience perfectly. Well done!
