Emily came home for spring break and noticed Keeper wasn’t her usual self. The golden retriever barely acknowledged her. She was obviously in pain.

She took her to the veterinarian who examined her and concluded that her situation demanded immediate surgery.

On the day of the operation, Emily sat in the waiting room worried about the dog who was her constant companion until she left for college. She remembered the many happy memories shared together on the beach.

After an hour, the doctor came out with some blood on his scrub.

“Good news. Keeper and the puppies are doing fine.”

Great bit of tension leading up to the happy ending! And how tricky of you, to link to the prompt with the puppy’s name, fun!

gotcha! but it was just a coincidence. when i wrote the story, i was thinking of keeper, emily bronte’s dog, who remained loyal to her even after she passed away.

Lovely ending. I was thinking the dog had swallowed too much debris found on the beach

    Dear Plaridel,

I was so sure that she was going to have to put Keeper down. Great build of tension and a satisfying ending. Loved it.

    Shalom,

Wonderful, I’m smiling here. It’s the upside down twist from what we see often. Here we expect the worst and are pleasantly surprised.
