Weekly Photo Challenge: Relax

Dog Taking a Nap
Location: Dupnitsa, Bulgaria
It was one of those dog days of summer. Arriving at our destination, it was only fitting that I saw a dog napping on the rooftop. It seemed to have no care in the world and oblivious to what was happening around.

On that day, we spent a relaxing afternoon with the Roma people in the village of Dupnitsa. Unlike their nomadic counterparts who roam around Europe, they have decided to stay put. Roma is the politically correct term for the gypsies. Among ethnic groups in Europe, the Roma people are the poorest and most discriminated against.

Our hosts welcomed us with the customary bread and salt and served us traditional food. We deeply appreciated their hospitality.

As we left the village, I noticed that the dog was no longer on the rooftop. I looked around hoping to see it one last time, but the dog was nowhere to be found. Too bad. I could have share it a cookie.

I have been to Dupnitza, but failed to capture such a lovely image. Is there still an art gallery in the historic mosque?
