For Friday Fictioneers 100-Word Challenge: 14 July 2017

Andrea wanted to see the world. In her room, she had a glass jar where she wrote each desired destination on a piece of paper. It didn’t take long for it to become full. Her mom jokingly remarked, “Too many places, too little time.” It proved to be prophetic.

After graduating from high school, Andrea was diagnosed with leukemia. Sadly, chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant didn‘t work for her.

“Mom,” she implored. “I’m tired. I want to go home now and sleep in my own bed.”

Shortly thereafter, she passed away leaving a glass jar packed with dreams unfulfilled.

How tragic, Plaridel. This reminds me of a classmate of mine in the 50’s who was diagnosed with Leukemia. Back then there was no cure and the teachers told us she was dying. She came back to school for a time but did eventually die. Good writing, —- Suzanne
