Location: Promenadenplatz Square, Munich, Germany
While in Munich, I chanced upon this strange statue in front of Hotel Bayerischer Hof. It’s supposed to be that of Maximilian Von Montgelas (1759-1838), a Bavarian statesman and politician in the early 19th century.
Built with layered aluminum, it seems to represent the many aspects of his personality that enabled him to succeed in public life.
It could have been inspired also by the famous proverb, “No man is a hero to his valet.” It doesn’t look good when you’re close to it. Just like Maximilian Von Montgelas and other politicians, It’s best viewed from the distance.
