For Friday Fictioneers 100-Word Challenge: 5 January 2018

Ryan felt so homesick watching city workers prepare for the holidays that he decided to go to the food court to splurge.
He ordered teriyaki chicken over rice. It was as close to his mom’s cooking as he remembered.
“It’s $7.78.” the woman behind the counter said.
Ryan handed her a $20 bill, the only money he had.
He was an ex-Marine who had problems adjusting to civilian life. Diagnosed with PTSD, he had become an outcast.
Meanwhile, a woman was seen standing outside his tent at the homeless camp. It was his sister waiting patiently for a hopeful reunion.

i always make that mistake. in my native language, pronouns aren’t gender-specific.

this touched my heart because I’ve worked with vets who have PTSD. I sure hope he links up with his family again.
