For Friday Fictioneers 100-Word Challenge: 22 February 2019

Coming home was bittersweet. It brought back memories of the girl who inspired me to rise above my circumstances.

Her name was Rosabella. When we were kids, we were the best of friends. It didn’t matter that she was the village chief’s daughter.

Falling in love with her made me realize we had less in common. Her family was rich while mine was dirt poor. I started to drift away.

I left to work overseas. A decade later, I had saved enough money to start a business.

Rosabella was happily married now. I made it but lost her in return.

Although he regrets it, I think he has more to be grateful for from his beginnings. It may not have worked out anyway between them.

It’s sad for the main character that they never got the chance to see if things would have worked out between them. But maybe it’s meant to happen like this for a reason. Great read.

Dream to attain Rosabella certainly made you realise your potential. Great last line, made life lost love. But love was unattainable with past life.

I wonder what would’ve happened if he’d stayed. Well written story.

Silly man, Maybe if he had been honest with her, he would have found out she would love him regardless and maybe even help him achieve his goals…
    Such a waste.

Rosabella was the impetus for him making a better life. It’s sad he didn’t end up with her, but he’ll do okay in the end I think. Nicely told!

Good thing he moved where he was appreciated for his merit, rather than his family’s money or status. Like the first house on your house hunt, your first love may give you an idea of things you like or dislike, the features, the area you want to live in, etc. But it’s rarely the one you end up staying with for life.
