Roberto was smart and made her laugh. But there was a catch. He was a mama’s boy.

“Your mom thinks nobody is good enough for you,” a worried Emily said when he proposed to her.

“Well, it’s because she hasn’t met you.”

When Roberto introduced her to his Sicilian mother. Emily was surprised they hit off right away. Both loved to cook.

After they got married, Emily served her new husband Pasta alla Norma for dinner.

“Oh, my,” Roberto said enjoying his meal. “You cook as good as mom.”

For the first time, Roberto found himself sleeping on the couch.

i guess the first lesson to learn isn’t to compare her cooking to his mama’s.

Isn’t that all mama’s? No one is good enough for my son! (haha)

Yeah, early on in my married life, my husband’s comment that I didn’t cook as well as his Italian grandmother didn’t go over well at all. Entertaining story, Plaridel!

when i was in sicily, somebody told me that the best compliment that an italian husband can give to his wife is that she cooks as well as his mama. probably it doesn’t always work. πŸ™‚

    Dear Plaridel,

It could’ve been worse. He could’ve said she didn’t cook like his mom. πŸ˜‰ No wife likes to be compared to her mother-in-law. Although my husband once told me my homemade bread tasted as good as his grandma’s and took it as high praise. Good story, sir.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

i don’t know why but a mother-in-law can be considered a competitor to a husband’s affection. but grandma, not as much. πŸ™‚
