It was Dorothyโ€™s birthday. The surprise party at the hospital cafeteria where she worked could barely lift her spirits.

Early this year, her husband died and their home for twenty years was lost in the recent wildfire.

Surrounded by co-workers, Dorothy felt so alone wishing her only son Ryan was around. But he was serving in Afghanistan.

“Hey mom!” A familiar voice startled her. It belonged to Ryan who got a pass from the military.

Mother and son rushed to each other and hugged so tight they wouldn’t let go.

It was a moment that left those around them teary-eyed.
