Brian wanted to give Hannah a date to remember before she and her family moved to another state. But he got no money to splurge. Desperate situations called for desperate measures and this was one of them.

In the dead of winter, Brian broke into a neighbor’s house to steal valuables he could sell. He came face to face with the owner armed with a gun. Shots rang out, shattering the stillness of the night.

Brian survived but was badly injured. While recovering from the hospital, Hannah came to say good-bye.

β€œYou’re a moron,” she said, holding his hand tenderly.

    Dear Plaridel,

Brian made some unfortunate choices. I’m sure it’s a date he’ll never forget.

      i totally agree.

That’s what I call instant karma. There are no easy ways to things that matter… What an unfortunate turn of events.

    • 6. plaridel  |  January 29, 2020 at 3:00 pm

hopefully, he has learned his lesson.

    Yes, Karma indeed! Good story

at least, he survived to realize his mistake. πŸ™‚

I expect Hannah is glad to get away, although she may have understood his feelings. What would he do next?

    • 12. plaridel  |  January 30, 2020 at 3:17 pm

first thing he should do is recover from his injury and face the music.

  • 13. granonine  |  January 30, 2020 at 9:59 am

Those final words—I’m intrigued. Did she harbor tender feelings for him, understanding why he’d been so foolish? Or was she just trying to soften the blow of the “goodbye,” tenderly holding his hand?

    • 14. plaridel  |  January 30, 2020 at 3:17 pm

hannah was reprimanding him for what he did, but at the same time, understanding why he did it.

      • 15. granonine  |  January 30, 2020 at 5:57 pm

That’s kind of where I was leaning. She’ kind. It really was a dumb thing for him to do πŸ™‚

        • 16. plaridel  |  February 1, 2020 at 8:49 pm

sadly for him, she’d prove be the one that got away.

  • 17. pennygadd51  |  January 30, 2020 at 12:27 pm

I have the same question as Linda. Did Hannah still have feelings for him? I would guess that she did, so perhaps Brian will make good after all!

    • 18. plaridel  |  January 30, 2020 at 3:18 pm

it’s a moot question to ask. hannah is leaving town. i don’t believe they’d see each other again.

  • 19. ceayr  |  January 30, 2020 at 1:41 pm

Those special words he’ll remember all the years he’s in prison!

    • 20. plaridel  |  January 30, 2020 at 3:18 pm

      i certainly hope so.

  • 21. Tannille  |  January 30, 2020 at 8:16 pm

Karma. I envy US home protection laws. In my country the home owner would be arrested.

    • 22. plaridel  |  February 1, 2020 at 8:48 pm

in some states, it would be considered excessive use of force.

  • 23. draliman  |  January 30, 2020 at 11:40 pm

Maybe by the time he gets out of prison she’ll have moved back!

    • 24. plaridel  |  February 1, 2020 at 8:48 pm

      he wished. 😦

  • 25. susanmehr  |  February 1, 2020 at 7:24 am

Not a wise choice he made here. πŸ™‚

    • 26. plaridel  |  February 1, 2020 at 8:47 pm

big mistake on his part he’d regret the rest of his life.

  • 27. Dale  |  February 1, 2020 at 7:11 pm

I’m with Hannah… Brian is a moron! Too bad he didn’t just invite her for a romantic walk around the rink!

    • 28. plaridel  |  February 1, 2020 at 8:47 pm

it could have been cool, but too late now.

  • 29. Eugenia Parrish Author  |  February 3, 2020 at 2:31 pm

“Moron” interposed with “tenderly”. That says it all!
