It was on these back steps that Tommy and I used to sit and share our dreams. We were the best of buddies. He had that engaging laughter I could still hear in my mind.
One day I rode my bike and Tommy followed me on his skateboard. As we were crossing the street, he was struck by a speeding car.
“Peter!” I remember him uttering my name before he passed out. He later died due to his injuries.
His death left an emptiness in my heart that could never be filled. After all these years, I still miss him.

Some people can’t be replaced. The loss is strong.

The fact that Peter’s name was the last word Tommy uttered will have made it all the more difficult to find closure. A sad tale indeed.
Here’s mine!

that and thinking he was partly to be blamed for his death. if he didn’t ask him to go with him, it wouldn’t have happened.

Dear Plaridel,
Such a believable and poignant story. I hope it’s not based on a truth in your life. Well done.
Shalom,

it’s very perceptive of you. it’s based on a true story although the circumstances have been changed.

Beautifully poignant story and even sadder that it’s based on a true story.

This is some of the most realistic fiction you’ve written, which makes me wonder if it’s based on truth. I liked the matter-of-fact tone, almost like an emotionless news story, that you’ve used in relating this incredibly sad tale.
