It was a poster featuring the Paris skyline that Emily had back in college. It had seen better days and its condition made worse due to water damage.

John suggested that his wife get rid of it, but Emily wouldn’t hear of it. For some reason, she had an emotional attachment to it. It must have reminded her of the dream she had before an unplanned pregnancy forced them to get married.

It was only when John surprised her with a Paris vacation on their 10th wedding anniversary in lieu of buying himself a new Harley that she finally relented.

I understand her thinking. I still have the posters I had on my wall as a student

So, he finally gave her the real thing which allowed her to ditch the poster. Sweet story.

I liked the events as they played themselves out in your story. Sounds like a win-win for them. May they enjoy another 10 after the trip.

    Dear Plaridel,

John was one thoughtful husband…giving up a Harley for Paris is huge and better than a damaged poster any day. Nicely done.

    Shalom,

All that just to get rid of the picture – perhaps it worked in her favour and she eventually got her wish – a trip to Paris.

I wondered at first if the picture reminded her of the person she really wanted to marry before the unwanted pregnancy forced John on her, but as it was just her dreams she wanted fulfilling, John has done a great job.

You leave us plenty of room to imagine the backstory for example was her dream to visit Paris, or was her dream to marry somebody else? I like that in a story – it makes it so much richer emotionally. I love the way he gave up his dream of a Harley so she could have her dream of a vacation in Paris.
