After taking a shower I stood naked in front of the mirror and realized it couldn’t wait any longer. It wasn’t about the beer belly. Rather, it was about my hair. After more than two months of lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, it had grown to the point of no return. I badly needed a haircut.
However, much as I wanted to see my favorite barber, I couldn’t do it. Barbershops and salons aren’t considered essential businesses, so they are ordered closed indefinitely.
If you’re desperate, I’m sure you can find somebody willing to defy the order and cut your hair. But is it worth the risk? Being in close contact with your barber puts you both at risk of spreading the virus.
It’s been said that necessity is the mother of invention. It can force you to invent or find ways to get out of your predicament.
I found my eureka moment when I came across this YouTube video teaching how to cut your own hair.
The instructions looked very easy to follow that I decided to buy a hair clipper set and give it a shot.

After searching online, I ended up getting the Wahl Color Pro Cordless Rechargeable Hair Clipper & Trimmer β Easy Color-Coded Guide Combs – For Men, Women & Children β Model 9649. It’s a hot item right now with its price ranging from reasonable to the ridiculous that it pays to shop around. I got mine from Amazon last week for $33.61.
After some trepidation, I cut my hair for the first time using the instructions from the video. It took 20 minutes and surprisingly I was quite happy with the result. It wasn’t as good as my barber could have done, but it will do during this time of the pandemic.
I suggest that you try it too. If you make a mistake, donβt worry about it. Your hair will grow back.

My husband brought out his old barber scissors and asked me to cut his hair. What a challenge! I felt like Michelangelo chipping away all the parts that weren’t David — in this case, trying to snip away all the hair ends that didn’t belong in an elderly man’s appearance. π
So he got a “sculptured” haircut twice now, but we’re both eagerly awaiting the return to the barber’s chair.
Bravo for you. Bob kept saying the same thing: “Don’t worry. It”ll grow back.”
