For Friday Fictioneers 100-Word Challenge: 2 April 2021

When I reported for work as a member of their team, Rich engaged with me at once and we became fast friends.

He found my personality a little uptight. He helped me relax by going for two-hour lunches at the nearby watering hole.

I remember him sharing his mother’s cookies that she sent during the holidays. “Mom thinks I’m still her little boy,” he laughed.

A few years later, Rich succumbed to pancreatic cancer, the same disease that killed Steve Jobs.

Needless to say I miss him. His passing left an emptiness in my heart that will never be filled.

Plaridel, I really hope this is pure fiction. Sounds like Rich was a good guy.

I thought it sounded like a true story. Sometimes it’s hard to tell, but there was just something about this one. I’m glad you have such positive memories of your friend.

This reads like a true story; if so, it sounds like you had a wonderful friendship and a sad loss.

True friends never truly leave us… they just become beloved memories to be cherished for eternity. What a sad tale this week. Know the feeling all too well.

This is so sad. It is hard to lose a friend, especially when they die too young.
