For Friday Fictioneers 100-Word Challenge: 2 April 2021

When I reported for work as a member of their team, Rich engaged with me at once and we became fast friends.
He found my personality a little uptight. He helped me relax by going for two-hour lunches at the nearby watering hole.
I remember him sharing his mother’s cookies that she sent during the holidays. “Mom thinks I’m still her little boy,” he laughed.
A few years later, Rich succumbed to pancreatic cancer, the same disease that killed Steve Jobs.
Needless to say I miss him. His passing left an emptiness in my heart that will never be filled.

True friends never truly leave us… they just become beloved memories to be cherished for eternity. What a sad tale this week. Know the feeling all too well.
