I lost a friend today. Our paths crossed when he joined our team. Yesterday, his contract ended. I’ll miss him.

He came to the U.S. from China to study. After completing his graduate studies, he chose to stay. I don’t blame him as I’m an immigrant myself. The opportunities here are much better.

Asked what he’s going to do, he said, he’ll take a long vacation in China where he and his wife bought a condo close to the beach.

Sometimes it’s better when a friendship ends before it gets boring.

With a handshake and a hug, we said goodbye.

I wonder whether he’ll still feel that when he looks back

I hope you and he can stay in touch. One of my former co-workers has traveled back and forth to China to teach law at a Chinese university. He said that communication isn’t that easy back and forth though.

Sadly every friendship has an expiry date, but a friend parted on good times is a friend in the heart and fond memories.

A friendship gets boring? That’s no friendship… They still can stay in touch though.

It’s sad sometimes, the way people come and go. Especially the ones we wish could stay. Nicely done,

I know this feeling all too well. Too many friends who were lost with the goodbyes as time ended in Korea.

It brings a tear to my eye.

I like the subtlety of your story. You quietly draw our attention to the transitory nature of many friendships. You paint a picture of the inevitability of change brought about by circumstance. Well done.

What a great take on the prompt. That’s such a good point that sometimes it’s good to lose a friend before they wear out their welcome.
