For Friday Fictioneers 100-Word Challenge: 25 June 2021

Landon left home to become a boxer. But soon reality hit. Despite his physical built, his fighting skills were mediocre. To make ends meet, he became a journeyman and got paid to lose.
Inside the ring, the champion was playing him, hurting him, and bloodying him.
“C’mon man, give me all you’ve got.” he taunted.
It was at that moment that Landon completely lost it. He had enough of the charade.
In one unexpected fell swoop, he hit the champion hard and knocked him down like a giant tree.
Now a marked man, Landon left the city in a hurry.

Great take on the prompt, depicting the chaos in the ring, the felling of a mighty tree. He was pushed to his limit. A much longer story brews here.

Back in my juvenile probation officer days, when kids who’d done crimes yelled “unfair” if something went against them in the criminal justice process, orders of restitution, etc., I used to tell them, “when you made a choice to break the law, your entitlement to fair went out of the window.” I have no sympathy for this person as they chose an alternative way of learning reality.
