Riley looked at the trinket swinging helplessly in the cold wintry wind. It was a gift from her dad before he passed away.

Her mom’s new husband put it up there as punishment for not doing what he wanted her to do.

“Do as I say,” Luke insisted, “and you’ll get it back.”

“Well?” he looked at Riley now sobbing uncontrollably.

“Let’s go to your room and get it over with before your mom comes home.

That night, Amelia asked her husband what he did do to make Riley clean her room.

“Let’s just say it’s between her and me.”

Yikes. That was some emotional blackmailing. He definitely got results but I’m not sure I quite agree with his methods

uuurgh! I really didn’t want to press the like button, but you’ve written it too well for me not to. What a repulsive human being Luke is. Without saying explicitly what happened in Riley’s bedroom, you’ve made it completely clear. That’s good writing. Well done!

    Dear Plaridel,

I’d say he’s using more than a precious trinket as a bargaining chip. There are too many Lukes in the world. Well written, maddening story.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

This doesn’t train better behaviour. It will cause resentment and tell young lady into a rebel, who will also be getting further trouble with the police as she grows up. Bullying breeds bullying.
