It was moving time. His mom had instructed Billy to do his share of cleaning up. As much as he hated it, he looked in his underwear drawer and noticed that most in his inventory were beyond salvaging. They had holes that got bigger due to neglect and too much scratching while watching TV alone and undisturbed. So many memories to end up in the trash can, but that’s life. He must learn to grow up and move on.
First the underwear, then the rest of his boyhood stuff. Billy knew his mom couldn’t be more pleased with his efforts.

I never thought of old underwear as having sentimental value. Interesting

i saw change in the offing in the the photo prompt, so i thought a coming-of-age story would fit the bill. not sure if it came across that way, though. 🙂

My Mum, (85) is now asking, nay commanding me (50) to clear out his old bedroom to “make space”!!!! The world’s gone mad. Good stuff sir

Having responsibility for one’s undergarments is a sure sign of growth and maturity. Fun story — well done.

Sifting through hoarded memories can be difficult. Doing it for others lifts the weight. Thanks Plaridel.

There comes a time for us all to grow up. I’m waiting for that time (haha). But, Billy really does need to do something about his undergarments. 🙂

I like how you built around the symbolism of the underwear; also that it was the first domino to overcome Billy’s inertia. Such a good story, Plaridel.

    Dear Plaridel,

A young man needs to know how to take care of himself. Good for him. As for the scratching, I’ll leave that alone. 😉 Good one.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle
