After cashing in on recyclables he collected from the streets, Jaylen got a large pizza for New Yearβs Eve.
It was a real treat, a luxury considering their humble circumstances.
While waiting for the green light to cross the street, a scruffy kid grabbed the pizza from behind him.
“Hey, you!” Jaylen yelled as he followed him weaving in and out of foot traffic.
The chase ended in the nearby public housing complex.
“Why did you do that?” he asked his younger brother Niles.
“You’re a slow poke,” Niles said as he opened the entrance door leading to their apartment.
