For Friday Fictioneers 100-Word Challenge: 23 January 2023

It was the house that his grandfather built. He remembered the many happy moments he spent there with his family. It was supposed to last for generations had fate not intervened.

During the war, the military appropriated it for use by its commanders. Once the hostilities were over, they got it back, but it was now just a shell of what it used to be.

Unable to pick up the pieces, it was time for the family to move on. They accepted the offer of a local businessman to tear it down and make room for a new convenience store.

      no doubt about it.

      anyway, i can relate to this story. during world war 2, the Japanese Imperial Army converted our ancestral home into living quarters for its officers. Although it survived the war, the heirs decided to sell it for the right price. A medical clinic now stands where it used to be.

    It is difficult to see places you have an emotional investment in get torn to bits. I’m sure none of those soldiers thought twice about it.
