Mateo works on a luxury cruise ship. As a waiter in the main dining room, he’s responsible for serving high-end cuisine using premium dinnerware sets.
It could be challenging to be surrounded by such extravagance while not being able to partake in it personally.
But to a die-hard optimist like him, it can also be an opportunity to appreciate the finer things in life and develop a deeper understanding of the value that they hold for others.
It’s for this reason that Mateo never forgets to play the lottery at least once a week. As they say, hope springs eternal.

Hey, a friend of mine just won one million dollars. If you don’t play, you can’t win!

We can all dream. Waiting on the lottery is a long long shot though!

Dear Plaridel,
You can’t win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket. Perhaps his fortune will come some other way. At any rate it can’t hurt to dream.
Shalom,
Rochelle

I love his hope, although I’ve got my fingers crossed he has an alternative dream if the lottery doesn’t come through.

for all you know, he could meet a lonely rich widow aboard the ship. winning her over is like winning in the lottery. 🙂

I like his optimistic attitude and the fact he doesn’t seem to resent those with more money.

having the right mindset will help him succeed in life even if he doesn’t win the lottery.

Well if Mateo keeps his hopes up all will be well…seems like he’s setting himself up for bitter disappointment.

he should have Plan B just in case.

James McEwan | March 10, 2023 at 6:17 am
Ah, the lottery trap. Good luck to him. I personally think the payment to play the lottery is a self-imposed tax.

if anything, the lottery funds public schools like in california.

James McEwan | March 11, 2023 at 12:33 am
I know the lottery funds a lot of charity in UK, but it is a voluntary choice to play. Thanks.

I often imagine it is difficult for those who have little to work around and for those who seem to have everything. At least Mateo has a positive spirit and thinks forward. Hope is our greatest strength!

I thought you were going to say he was a clumsy server and dropped a lot of plates 🙂 I like where you took it instead. I follow Mateo’s lead with the lotto. You can’t win if you don’t play!
