Mateo works on a luxury cruise ship. As a waiter in the main dining room, he’s responsible for serving high-end cuisine using premium dinnerware sets.

It could be challenging to be surrounded by such extravagance while not being able to partake in it personally.

But to a die-hard optimist like him, it can also be an opportunity to appreciate the finer things in life and develop a deeper understanding of the value that they hold for others.

It’s for this reason that Mateo never forgets to play the lottery at least once a week. As they say, hope springs eternal.

Hey, a friend of mine just won one million dollars. If you don’t play, you can’t win!

    Dear Plaridel,

You can’t win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket. Perhaps his fortune will come some other way. At any rate it can’t hurt to dream.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

I love his hope, although I’ve got my fingers crossed he has an alternative dream if the lottery doesn’t come through.

I know the lottery funds a lot of charity in UK, but it is a voluntary choice to play. Thanks.

I often imagine it is difficult for those who have little to work around and for those who seem to have everything. At least Mateo has a positive spirit and thinks forward. Hope is our greatest strength!
