He was born and raised in a small village close to the beach. Coming home for a visit, he expects to relive the memories of his happy childhood only to be disappointed. It is now a tourist attraction that is hidden behind B&Bs, stores, and dining establishments.
To his utter dismay, he realizes he can’t return in time. Places change, people change, and life moves forward.
He strolls along the old dirt road that is now asphalt in the hopes of stumbling onto any traces of the community he once knew. Given the situation, that’s the best he can do.

It seems like revisiting those old places often lead to disappointment in some form π¦

So true. I revisited a childhood holiday haunt the other week. Never again!

sandra:
the photo prompt, the song, and remembering the last visit to my hometown provided the inspiration for the story.

It is true, what is said that “you can’t go home again”. Great story this week. a reminder to us all to enjoy this moment in our lives because there will never be another like it. π

tracey,
yes, the only constant in this life is change and we better get used to it.

There is some truth to the saying, “you can’t go home again”. This story illustrates it well.

Dear Plaridel,
They call it progress. My old neighborhood looks nothing like the place of my childhood. I feel him. Good writing.

I often have to drive through my home town and every time I do so, memories of the lovely little place it once was flood back.

Iβm hoping that the photo scene is a place he stumbles upon and finds untouched by βprogressβ.

I remember driving down a street we used to live on when I was 8-9 years old. The house we lived in had shrunk. The trees were tired. The sidewalk was buckled. There were no children playing outside. I was sorry I went back.
