It was a tough climb. Some steps were slippery because of the previous rain and threatened to throw him off balance. It was Mom who kept him going. She had been a constant source of strength and encouragement as they went up together.

Standing at the summit, all he could see was a barren landscape filled with weird rock formations and patches of greenery. Boring. He wished he could have stayed at the lodge and played video games instead.

After his mom passed, however, his perspective changed. It became one of the moments he’d remember fondly as time went by.

    Dear Plaridel,

As the old saying goes, “We don’t know what we have until it’s gone.” Lovely and poignant piece.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

How very true – only in hindsight do we appreciate those moments.

Oh, boy! This pulls at the heartstrings. Even as an older person a balked against some of the things my mom wanted to do with me. Thanks for the memory.

Plaridel you illustrate so well how memory and perspective change in retrospect. I’m glad he decided to go walking with his Mom that day.

Ah, isnโ€™t this always how it goes. These are the moments weโ€™ll cherish. The son reminds me of my own teenage son, hopefully heโ€™ll remember moments like these when it comes to it.
