weekly photo challenge: family

geese family

location: lake bled, slovenia
this is a photo of a family of geese eagerly waiting for handouts from passers-by. i took it while walking around the waters of lake bled in slovenia.

lake bled is one of the most picturesque places in europe. its unique charms and gentle climate have attracted the aristocratic elite as well as visitors from all over the world.

in the middle of the lake, there’s an island. in the old days, the ancient slavs went there to worship ziva, the goddess of love and fertility. it could well be the main reason why it has become a popular wedding destination. it’s expected that the groom be physically fit. no silly, it has nothing to do with what’s expected on their honeymoon. rather, it has to do with meeting the traditional requirement of being able to carry his bride up 99 steps to the church.

as many couples have elected to get married here, they see the geese as a good omen. who wouldn’t? it’s been said that geese mate for life.

an old car has some advantages. it doesn’t have monthly payments. it saves me from picking up somebody at the airport on the wee hours of the morning. most importantly, it allows me to save money for travels, which i really like.

the car doesn’t have air-conditioning, too, but it’s something that i consider as a bonus. you know why? it gives me an excuse on hot summer days to be chic by opening the windows and let the fresh air in and ruffle my hair. so there!

weekly photo challenge: focus

i snapped this picture in front of our house in the philippines during a recent visit last may. it started raining hard and i went outside to see what was going on.

the intended object was the little white flower in the foreground being pelted by the raindrops. i want to confess that the seemingly hazy background was unintentional. it was caused by the rain and not due to my photographic skills. nevertheless, i was happy with the result.
