weekly travel theme: contrast

in the springtime, the weather in bulgaria can be unpredictable. it can change any minute providing a good study of contrasting weather conditions.

i took this picture while we were driving on the way to the village of ognyanovo. we stopped by on the side of the road to get a better view of the hailstorm brewing over the horizon.

there was a farmer on the road selling apples. as we continued on our journey, we waved to him and pointed to the sky. he just smiled and waved back. oh well, i didn’t think he had a clue what was coming.

weekly photo challenge: up

for this week’s challenge, i’d like to share this photo that i took somewhere in the prague neighborhood. it’s about laundry hanging out to dry. i confess it’s rather mundane. there must be better sights to consider on one of the most beautiful places on earth. i have my reasons which i will tell you later.

weekly photo challenge: lunchtime

it really doesn’t make any difference what part of the world you’re in. people love to have lunch outside on a sunny day.

i snapped this photo while walking around downtown varna last summer. varna is the largest city on the bulgarian black sea coast. it was supposed to be a stolen shot, but the woman on the left caught me in the act.

weekly photo challenge: lost in the details

the vatican is one of those places where it can be an overwhelming experience. when you try to contemplate on the grandeur of it all, you tend to get lost in the details like these filipino nuns walking in the rain and the other unsung workers who have made it all possible.

i confess that i don’t like taking pictures of people without their permission, but this time i’m glad i made an exception.

weekly photo challenge: love

this photo was taken at st. mary’s church in krak√≥w, poland. the happy couple readily posed for the camera without being asked. were they just being friendly or was it something expected of them by local tradition? does anybody know the answer? interestingly, several other couples who got married on that day did the same thing as they exited the church.

anyway, it was early summer and the weather was a little bit chilly so the groom lent his coat to the bride. if that wasn’t love, then i don’t know what it was.
