Wordless Wednesday: Restrictive Parking Until Enforced
Weekly Photo Challenge: Anticipation
Location: Punta Gorda, Belize
An outhouse is an outhouse is an outhouse. It’s there in anticipation of your need to go when you needed to go.
But this one is special. Located at the Warasa Garifuna Drum School, it features the painting of a man and a woman in their native attire making it a work of art and a place of easement at the same time.
When traveling, it pays to look for Mcdonald’s when nature calls because this American export is known for its clean restrooms.
In Belize, however, there’s no Mcdonald’s to save the day. You have to make do with what’s available to relieve yourself. Most restrooms are the outhouse type. Despite their humble structures, they’re clean and respectable and serve their purpose well. At least, I can speak of those that I have used.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Tiny
Location: Rio Blanco National Park, Belize
The air was pregnant with rain when we arrived at the Rio Blanco National Park in Belize. While walking on the wet grassy path, I noticed some green stuff moving around. On close inspection, I found that they were actually small pieces of leaves carried by leafcutter ants.
These ants can be found in South and Central America, Mexico, and parts of the United States. They collect leaves to create fungus gardens underground to feed the whole colony.
What’s amazing about these leafcutter ants is that they can carry up to 10 times their own body weight. That would make them ineligible for the Olympics due to their superhuman strength. They also have very sharp jaws that they use to slice through leaves. So beware! Watch your steps! It pays to let them do their business with the least provocation.
