During my first trp to Belgium, I learned that Belgians usually eat four times a day, starting with a light breakfast, followed by a medium lunch, then a snack, and finally, a large dinner.
It was no surprise, then, that early in the afternoon, on the way home from Waterloo, we stopped for a break in Bruparck for a snack.
I ordered spaghetti alle vongole. The clams were cooked quickly in hot olive oil and then added to the pasta along with white wine and garlic sauce. It was so good that I finished it all. Or maybe I was just hungry.

Lumpia is a variation of the spring roll originating from China. It consists of savory fillings such as chopped vegetables and minced meat wrapped in a thin skin of wheat flour and deep fried. It’s a popular dish that no Filipino party can be without.
The above picture was taken during an outside gathering held by the Filipino community in Brussels that I was fortunate enough to attend. It gave me an opportunity to taste lumpia and other dishes as well as experience Filipino culture in a different setting. In Belgium, Lumpia is locally known as loempia.
