“Isn’t it pretty?” The salesman said as Emily tried the ring on her finger.

“It’s one of a kind, too.”

Nathan thought it would be a nice Christmas present. But times were hard. As a struggling writer, he could barely pay the rent.

He ended up giving her a knitted hat.

“It’s lovely,” Emily said when she opened the box. “It’ll come in handy in the snow.”

“I wish I could have bought you the ring instead,” Nathan said, still feeling sorry for himself.

“Enough of the drama,” Emily said. “Bebe, what’s important is you keeping me warm this winter.”
