Cornish Pasty

Cornwall is a great destination for nature lovers. It has a lot to offer with its rugged geology, moorland landscapes, and coastal scenery. It’s also home for the Cornish pasty. You can’t honestly say you’ve been to Cornwall without having its signature dish.

Cornish pasty is composed of meat, onion, turnip, and potato wrapped into a pastry crimping the edge to form a seal and baked in the oven. It’s believed to have been originally made for Cornish tin miners who are unable to return to the surface at lunchtime.

At Portreath Bakery, we had a lesson on the history of pasties and got to make our own after a brief demonstration from one of the staff. For a non-cook like me, who once tried to boil an egg in the microwave, it was quite an experience. I marveled at how easy it was to make it.
