Weekly Photo Challenge: Numbers

prague astronomical clock

Location: Old Town Square, Prague, Czechia

People live by the numbers. It’s the choice they make. Clock live by the numbers, too, not by choice, but rather of necessity. Coming in various types and sizes, they’re expected to tell the correct time to justify their existence.

Prague’s Astronomical Clock

One of the popular tourist attractions in Prague, the capital of Czechia (formerly known as the Czech Republic}, is this astronomical clock located at the Old Town Square. Created by Mikuláš of Kadan and Jan Šindel, it dates back in the 1400s. Amazingly, it still works.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Weight(less)

A Brick Art
Location: Prague, Czech Republic

It’s a piece of art made out of blocks laid on top of each other.

It reminds me of a tower game where players take turns removing one block at a time and putting it on top resulting in a progressively taller but less stable structure. The winner is the last person to remove and place a block before it falls down and succumbs to the laws of gravity.

On a deeper level, it could be the artist’s way of paying homage to a city renowned for its magnificent architecture. Hey, before you wonder what I’d been smoking, let me remind you that blocks are an integral part of building construction.

If you love architecture, Prague is the best place to go. The best of European architecture, spared from the bombs of World War II, are well-preserved standing next to one another. Romanesque. Gothic. Renaissance. Baroque and Rococo. Classicism. Neo Renaissance. Art Noveau. Cubism. Socialist Realism. Post Modern. You name it. You’d find it in this beautiful city.

If you’re not into architecture, you can try the beer. It’s very good. Locals even have them for breakfast.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Juxtaposition

cloak of conscience

Location: Prague, Czech Republic

This is the side view of Il Commendatore by Anna Chromy, located outside the Estates Theater where Mozart’s famous opera, Don Giovanni, had its grand opening in 1787. It’s one of the several “Cloak of Conscience” sculptures by the same artist found at several locations in Europe. I didn’t notice the head of a tourist appearing suddenly just as I was taking the picture. For sure, a fortuitous happenstance.
