The Pigeon Lady

It’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I could have spent the better part of the morning sleeping in on a holiday like this, but not today. I had to drive somebody to the airport at 4:00 a.m.

By the time I was back home, it was already light. I was no longer in the mood to go back to bed. I had oatmeal for breakfast. After breakfast, I took care of the bills while watching President Obama’s second inauguration on TV. I paid what bills could be paid online and wrote checks to pay the rest. I stuffed each check and bill in the corresponding envelope and then headed to the post office to mail them.

The post office is about a mile and a half from where I live. I decided to walk the distance hoping that I’d meet the pigeon lady on the way and take her picture for posterity. Besides, walking is the right thing to do. It isn’t only good for your health, but it’s also good for the environment. In addition, it doesn’t hurt to know it saves gas, which now costs $3.77 a gallon.
