Supermoon – Nov. 14, 2016

Supermoon

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, California

Last night, I couldn’t help myself. From the backyard, I took a picture of the supermoon using my smartphone.

Rising above the treetops, it was so bright and beautiful. Definitely, it was an awesome sight to behold. If somehow the picture didn’t get you excited, you could blame the photographer. If anything, you could compare it to the ones you took and be proud of yourself.

A supermoon is the term used when the moon orbits at its closest distance to the earth. Every 14th full moon is considered a supermoon. Last night was special since the last time it came this close was 70 years ago.

Next time it happens again will be on November 25, 2034. By then I hope I have a better camera to record the event.

The average lifespan of personal blogs is very short. At least, I can speak of those I’d followed through the years. After a good head start, they slowly run out of steam. You’ll notice it when the intervals between their posts become stretched out until they finally stop altogether. Some choose to exit cleanly by deleting their accounts. Some choose to die unceremoniously leaving their carcasses on the internet behind.

Inside Scotland: Great Scott, I Made It!

Location: Royal Mile, Edinburgh, Scotland

I planned on being in Edinburgh one day before our tour of Scotland started. But it didn’t happen as expected. Due to bad weather, I missed my connecting flight in Chicago.

After learning I’d be leaving on the following day, I immediately called the hotel to cancel the pre-tour reservation that I booked beforehand but it was all in vain. I was told that the request couldn’t be granted because it wasn’t received 24 hours prior to the scheduled arrival. Ouch! This meant I would be charged the full amount regardless.

When Prudence Was the Better Part of Valor

It was one hot summer night when we drove from San Francisco to Los Angeles to attend the wedding of our mutual friend. There were four of us in the car.

At around 2 a.m. we stopped at a diner along Interstate 5 to get a bite and take the much needed restroom break.

We found the place almost empty. While waiting to be seated, a guy stood beside one of my friends and started picking on him. He was a Latino of medium built and blood shot eyes. He seemed to be intoxicated or high on drugs.
