Super Bowl LII

It’s Super Bowl time again.

It’ll be New England Patriots vs. Philadelphia Eagles.

B-o-r-r-r-i-n-g!

Well, it seems like a coronation for the Patriots rather than a real game. They’re the winningest football team in history. They had been there nine times and won five times. It’s not surprising the odd makers favor them by 4.5 points as we speak.

People outside of New England are more likely rooting for the Eagles. They include everybody I had talked to during the past week. Blame it on what you call Patriot fatigue. They’re simply tired of seeing them compete in the Super Bowl. Perhaps it’s time to spread the wealth?

Although I live in California, my heart goes to the Patriots for the simple reason that its quarterback, Tom Brady, and wide receiver, Julian Edelman (lost for the season due to injury), are local boys.

But winning their sixth Lombardi Trophy will be tough against a very good defensive team. In 2017, the Eagles were ranked third against the run and seventh against the pass. I expect the Eagles to give the Patriots a run for their money. If they can go after Brady and sack him a few times, they will increase their chances of victory.

As I see it, it should be an interesting game to watch given its historical significance. Whether you like Belichick, Tom Brady and the Patriots or not, win or lose, we’ll never see another coach, quarterback and team like them in our lifetime again.

deflate-gate: it’s all about gamesmanship

it’s an issue that just won’t go away. i’m referring to what is now known as deflate-gate. a day before super bowl, it hasn’t lost its appeal. it has been a hot topic in the media and captured the interest of football fans all over since the afc championship game two weeks ago.

deflate-gate came about as result of allegations that the patriots had tampered with the balls that they used in the first half of the afc game. according to the reports, 11 out of the 12 of them were under 12.5 psi. official rules state they should be in the 12.5-13.5 range.

i don’t know about you, but i’m starting to catch super bowl fever. i’m not the only one. the heat is on even in the east coast currently experiencing record-breaking snowstorms.

the super bowl will be held this sunday in glendale, arizona. it comes at the most depressing time of the year when there’s nothing much to celebrate about. at least temporarily, it helps us take our minds away from the bad weather, mounting holiday bills, unrealistic new year’s resolutions, etc. i wonder what life in the u.s. would be without it. it has become as american as pie.

the two teams playing for the championship this year will be the seattle seahawks, last year’s super bowl winner, and the new england patriots, who had won it three times in the past.

the new york giants won with a score of 21-17. darn, they beat the new england patriots with a touchdown in the closing minutes. it was the same story when they met for the first time in the super bowl in 2008. the would-be giants’ slayer was slain instead.
