“I need to find someone to take care of Acel,” Marwan told his family sitting at the departure area.

“Why Papa?” Little Amena asked.

“The smugglers don’t allow dogs on board.”

He then instructed his wife to go and not to wait for him in case he didn’t return on time.

Of course, it was a lie. He only had enough money to pay for his family’s trip.

“Better hurry, Papa.”

When he came back later, he found the place empty.

“Don’t be sad, Acel, they’re on their way to freedom. It’ll just be the two of us for now.”
