For Friday Fictioneers 100-Word Challenge: 9 July 2021
Note:For some reason, I’m stumped (no pun intended) by this week’s challenge. I hope a repost will do for the time being. Who knows, maybe I’ll come up with something new later. But then again, don’t hold your breath. 🙂

“For generations, the tree had provided a nesting haven for birds and shade to passersby on summer days. But to the town’s elders, it wasn’t enough. It had to go as part of the road-widening project.
It appeared mighty proud and strong. It survived the strongest storms. But it had no match against the men in hard hats and power tools. They slowly tore down its defenses until it could resist no more.
“Timber!” One of them shouted. The tree fell down crashing to the ground.
Above, a mother bird shrieked helplessly around the spot where the tree once stood.

Sad and cruel and yet a reality too. The lives of so many trees and their inhabitants have been sacrificed in the name of developement

Murderers! Loggers should be convicted for murder for every tree they kill before they kill Earth all together

it’s the indiscriminate logging that should be banned and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Indeed, all logging is now harmful and indiscriminate though. over 60% of the worlds trees have vanished in the last 20 years.

Yup, and the Amazon provided 40% of Earths Oxygen. When thats gone, the air will be practically unbreathable.

Progress in the modern world is full of innocent casualties. the mother bird will have to find somewhere else next year, sad about the chicks.
