Sparky

For Friday Fictioneers 100-Word Challenge 3 January 2014

One of my earliest memories was seeing Sparky up on the tree gazing longingly outside the fence.

One summer morning, Sparky woke me up licking my feet like a lollipop. I told him to stop and kicked him to go away. I didn’t realize that it was his way of saying good-bye.

When grandma opened the gate later that day, Sparky rushed out to freedom. Ignoring her plea to come back, he was hit by an approaching car and died instantly.

Sparky brought joy to my young heart. He was also the first to break it by his untimely passing.

it was based on a a true story. when my sister and i were kids, we had a dog named susie. like sparky, she licked my feet and then followed my dad walking to the bus stop. on the way back home, she was hit by a passing car and died. my sister and i cried all week.

Sparky has a lot to answer for. Tough for a youngster to have to experience that, but it’s probably good preparation for his later years.

I understand how sad you would have been. That would be tough at any age but even more so to a child.

A heartbreaking tale. I lost a pup to a car, when I was little. It’s a terrible loss, as a kid. This story really captures the love and remorse that was felt. Nice job.

It is something a lot of pet owners experience, sometime. Your story really brought that feeling home. Nice job!
