We The People Have Spoken

You're Fired

It’s all over but the shouting. The most contentious presidential election in recent memory is history. Although it’s not official yet, former Vice President Joe Biden won and President Donald Trump lost. Based on the projection released by the Associated Press today, Biden has secured enough electoral votes to capture the presidency.

To his credit, Trump had fought the good fight until the end. He held rallies covering up to five states in a day. I find his stamina and energy amazing considering that he’s just recovered from Covid-19. Sometimes I wonder if his getting infected by the virus were fake. As a master showman, it does help fit his narrative that it’s not as serious as the media and the health experts want us to believe.

Some may attribute his loss to the coronavirus pandemic that it’s still going on with no signs of abating. So far, it has infected over 9 million Americans and caused almost 240,00 deaths. Its economic impact is also staggering with business shutting down and many people losing their jobs.

As an incumbent, Donald Trump could have used the pandemic to his advantage by leading a united front in response to the crisis. But his divisive style of leadership has failed to keep everybody on board. In addition, he has continued to rail against science and health professionals who disagree with his optimistic view that “it’s rounding the turn with or without the vaccine.”

I’m glad that Trump has been denied a second term. The way he has handled the pandemic reflects the other aspects of his presidency which he treats more like a reality show. It’s all about himself and how it would benefit the Trump brand. As a result, his main concern is to make himself look good and serving the country becomes secondary if at all.

Being a sore loser, he discredits the election results. He has filed Hail Mary lawsuits claiming that he has been cheated out of a victory. Without providing any evidence, however, it’s not going to get any traction. At best, his legal maneuverings could only delay the inevitable.

We the people have spoken. Joe Biden won fair and square. On January 20, 2021, he’ll be inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States in Washington, D.C.
