weekly photo challenge: threshold

i chanced upon this opening leading to the sea while hiking in vernazza, a little fishing village in northwestern italy. i thought it would be an appropriate picture for this week’s challenge.
don’t we always find ourselves on the threshold of something? well, it’s because nothing in life stands still. it’s a never-ending cycle of good and bad. much to our regret, the good doesn’t last. but, if there’s any consolation, the bad doesn’t last as well.
all my life, this quote from goethe has inspired me. i want to share it to you for whatever it’s worth.
whatever you can do or dream you can do, begin it
for courage has genius, power, and magic in it.
only engage and the mind grows heated.
begin it and the task is half-completed.

it’s a great rule to live by. we may not always succeed, but it’s better to fail than being hung up on what could have been.

That is a great quote, and very true–beginning is the hardest part.
